I would suggest to change to "real" full allocation (as in normal file filled with 00). Maybe: ( ) Use Sparse File , ( ) Use Compact Allocation , (o) Use Full Allocation + (X) Use Compact Allocation for parts of unneeded files And if you choose to download this unneeded file later, it woud just convert to a fully allocated file filled with 00. If I click on some magnet torrent link, Deluge opens but I cannot choose which files in the torrent to download. If I save the torrent file on desktop and drag&drop it do Deluge, I have then an option to choose which files I want to download. However, it's not just small parts of unwanted files it's downloading. Say I'm downloading 1 or 2 files in a torrent, and skipping the rest. The total of the selected files is around 50mb total. When finished, the total folder size is closer to 100mb!! Deluge is downloading almost double the amount I need! And it does this for every download In full allocation, the entire space that a file needs is allocated as soon as one piece of that file is downloaded, thus decreasing fragmentation. We suggest that our users use full allocation. Deluge uses sparse files for full allocation, the compact allocation option is only useful on file systems that don’t support sparse files (such as FAT or HFS+).

I've the same issue with qBittorrent, and Deluge - with the full allocation setting enabled. HOWEVER, there's no issue with Deluge when the compact allocation setting is used instead! Just a tip for everyone else who's struggling with the disk overload issue. It appears that transmission only allows full file allocation, because copying a partial download copies a 3.3GB file. I haven't tried using Deluge with partial allocation, but my guess is that will work reasonably well since copying and downloading large files doesn't use a lot of cpu and should be equivalent to partial allocation with a bit torrent client.

This means working with these files is quite slow on my HDD. 16/5/2016 - tested on freenas 9.10 with deluge 3.12 Deluge is a lightweight torrent client based on libtorrent Why do I like in Deluge ? it has an easy approach : in a graphical environment it can act in "classic" mode (like utorrent), it can also act in "daemon" mode, perfect for a headless server !
